In December of 2013 I called Jamie Troxel from RECAL Microbials to learn more about the RECAL PLUS probiotic because I had been hearing good things about it from other dairymen. Jamie told me about the RECAL and about the research he and Doc Snider had been working on. He also told me that they had a new product called RECAL PLUS SS and told me the differences. Then he asked me, how do you know if something is working unless you monitor it and go by what the cows say, I thought good question. So Jamie went on to tell me what he does to prove the product. He tracks dry matter intakes, cow numbers, bulk tank weights, % BF, % Pro, % OSOL, efficiency, 3.50% FCM, feed costs, income, & income over feed cost to get to the bottom line. He also performs manure screenings & fecal analyses before and 7-10 days after the start of the RECAL PLUS. He then told me that if he could perform these tasks on my farm with my cows he would give me the product for 30 days. Then if I saw no results in that 30 days I paid nothing, if I did see results that I liked then I would pay for the product and we would keep doing business together. He was willing to drive from Ohio to upstate New York several times in that 30 day period to prove the product. I thought what do I have to lose. So I said get up here and let's get started, so he did.

Well on our 70 cow jersey farm in the middle of winter we started the RECAL PLUS SS. In two weeks time we saw a 2 lbs. decrease in DMI and went up 3 lbs. of milk and income over feed cost went up over $1.00/cow/day. I was very impressed. For quite sometime I just couldn't get the cows over 50 lbs. of milk. I kept seeing inconsistent manure and wasn't happy with the reproduction. Well after I started on the RECAL PLUS SS the manure got very consistent, we have been running about 53 lbs.-54 lbs. of milk with 5.60% BF and over 4.00% protein. My reproduction and hoof health has greatly improved. Plus I am making more money.
